Mirror’s Edge 50% off ($9.99) at Amazon Game Downloads

Mirror's Edge

Mirror’s Edge is available at the EA store (America) for the same price so this might not be an exclusive deal. But it’s a great game and many stores still have it up for sale at $9.99 so you might want to try it out, specially if you trust the amazon downloader and key management system rather than EA’s (which is true in my case)

How to purchase Amazon.com downloadable games if you live outside the U.S.

I made my first game download purchase on Amazon.com recently and was initially confronted with a message saying that game downloads are only available to U.S. customers. Luckily, I already had a U.S. address attached to my Amazon account so all I had to do was to make that one my primary address.
If you are confronted with this situation, here’s what you have to do.

Register with VIAddress.com. They are a U.S. parcel forwarding service which provide you with a valid U.S. address.. FOR FREE. There customer care and PR is a bit on and off so I won’t advice using it for actual parcel forwarding. But you can add this address to Amazon.com and make it your primary address in order to buy game downloads.

If there’s a problem (Only read this if the above step is not sufficient)

I’m not sure whether you have to validate the address by having something delivered to it. I already had made purchases to my address. If this is the case, you could simply buy something small and cheap and have it sent to the address given to you by VIAddress. That should definitely work since the guys at VIAddress accept any delivery and you now have a solid U.S. address.

Medal of Honor for $19.99 on Amazon.com (Normally $59.99)

Medal of Honor : Tier 1

Medal of Honor (Tier 1) has had some mixed reviews and has been totally eclipsed by the success of Black Ops. None the less, it’s still a great game. Now you can grab it for $19.99 via Amazon Game Downloads. Steam still sells it for $59.99 so this is your chance to save $30.

The award winning and critically acclaimed pure shooter is back!

William “Wild Bill” Sherman, an ex CIA Agent and specialist for dangerous missions in the Black Ops Special Unit has a big problem: during his last job, he has managed to not only kill the head of an illegal drug operation and a slew of innocent civilians, but himself in a fatal mistake.

Trapped in a hostile place between heaven and hell, his soul flickers between the millions of faceless infidels and good and evil forces start to use Wild Bill for their own needs. But, it turns out that nothing is as it seemed at the beginning… solve the mystery and give the equilibrium between heaven and hell a little flip!

Developed by Homegrown Games with former developers and modders from the previous Painkiller games in collaboration with Studio Med-Art and with a Catholic priest advising, Painkiller Resurrection combines rock-hard, no-frills action and an exciting story with painstakingly researched details. In a bizarre world influenced by medieval ideas about hell and purgatory and Dante’s Inferno, the mixture of fast, straightforward levels and enormous, explorable regions containing the worst scum of any hell provides a unique gaming experience.

William “Bill” Sherman has a problem – he’s dead. Blown to pieces by his own C4 payload, which he wanted to eliminate a South American druglord with on behalf of some shady secret service people. The fact that he accidentally blew a bus full of innocent civilians into the Great Beyond has given rise to an all new problem – Hell doesn’t exactly have any problems with claiming his soul. But now Bill’s in purgatory and he’s caught the eye of heaven’s warriors. He’s been offered a chance to make good the havoc he wrought using his quite special skills. And with weapons of course. Bizarre weapons. Crazy weapons…

* New levels, new monsters, new bosses and a new story, all in typical Painkiller style
* Improved shadows, a higher texture resolution, moveable light sources, post processing, motion blur and ambient occlusion
* Classic-style FPS levels and enormous, explorable areas provide varied gameplay

Amazon stepping it up a notch in Digital Game Downloads

Amazon Game Downloads

Amazon entered the digital game distribution market with an extensive list of casual titles in the bag. It has recently introduced more than 500 core titles including most of the AAA one’s you’re ever going to need. Another trend that has emerged are huge discounts on great titles, the likes of which Steam is famous for. With these improvements, amazon is slowly starting to nudge it’s way in to the digital game download market dominated by Steam, D2D and GamersGate.

Michael Anderson has written a post titled “Amazon TOTALLY Gets This ‘Digital Game Sale’ Thing … MacGameStore, Not So Much!” regarding this phenomenon which is quite interesting. Here’s an excerpt:

Posted on 12 January 2011 by Michael Anderson

I have largely ignored Amazon’s digital download shop in my weekly round-ups, and with good reasons: they have offered marginal deals on marginal games and really weren’t bringing anything new to the game … until recently. This fall Amazon started stepping things up, and now for the new year they are standing toe-to-toe with Steam and Direct2Drive and GamersGate … at least in terms of hosting huge sales. There are a number of games I plan to buy from them this week, which will be the first non-casual stuff I’ve gotten from Amazon. Fortunately, it IS Amazon, so I have no reservations about buying from them!
